Dev Log #10: Week 12

In the last week, we refined and fixed any major bugs that occurred during playtesting.

We often had new bugs appear after fixing another bug, so we spent substantial time making sure we removed as many bugs as possible. New notes were created and added to better tell the story of the monster, while also giving hints as to what the player should do. We were inspired by how Until Dawn clarified writing on interactive notes, which was done by creating a sidebar containing the text in an easily readable font with key information in bold. Players then had the option to skim over the notes and receive key information for the gameplay, without needing to read the details of the story. It also helped with accessibility if people struggled to read the cursive font on the decorative note.

The new monster model created by the lead artist was finalised and implemented into the game. He worked with the lead sound engineer to design new sound effects that better matched the new look of the monster. The project lead helped implement the new animations of the monster into the final build.

This project was a challenging one as we had a lot of bumps in the road but the team always came together to overcome any obstacles, both with how the team was working together and issues/bugs in the game. Our game, despite having small bugs, successfully created an experience that evokes horror and fear, and most of all, a game that people enjoy playing.
